This Cartier Paris "Bud & Leaves" pendant necklace is an exceptional historical piece designed by the legendary Charles Jacqueau, who was widely celebrated as the "Picasso of jewelry design". Originally crafted in France around 1948 as a "Broche palme," or palm brooch, the piece represents a masterful blend of high Art Deco structure and post-war naturalism.
The necklace is meticulously constructed from 18k yellow gold and features a lush, stylized floral motif encrusted with a brilliant array of diamonds. Its central design is anchored by a prominent pear-shaped cluster that forms the "bud," radiating elegance and light. The reverse of the piece reveals a complex, open-worked gallery that highlights the sophisticated French craftsmanship of the era.
While the original double-pin brooch mechanism is still intact, the piece has been adapted into a versatile statement pendant that hangs from a modern 18k gold collar. This exact work holds significant provenance, having been featured as item #250 in the prestigious 2007 exhibition, Charles Jacqueau, Genius Jewellery Designer, at the Kyoto National Museum of Modern Art. Previously held in a private collection, this museum-documented necklace remains a rare testament to the enduring legacy of Cartier’s most influential designer.
